Call for Scholarship Applications

The Human Rights and Peace Centre (HURIPEC) of Makerere University, Uganda and the International Law Institute – African Centre for Legal Excellence (ILI-ACLE) are jointly organizing a seminar on International Criminal Law that will run from September 15-25, at ILI-ACLE in Kampala, Uganda.

Supported by a grant through the Open Society Initiative for East Africa (OSIEA), the two-week training programme will introduce the principles and developing trends in international criminal law (ICL).

Running for the second time, the programme is intended as an initiative for African lawyers with less than five (5) years working experience.

Under the programme, selected participants’ tuition fees, travel, accommodation, seminar materials and lunch/tea breaks during the training days will be covered.

Eligibility

Law graduates from central African Republic, Burundi, the Democratic of Congo, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe, with no more than five years working experience and a sound knowledge of the English language.

Application Process

Applicants should be able to demonstrate, in an essay of not more than three (3) pages:

 

  • Their interest in ICL;
  • How the programme would contribute to their current or future responsibilities; and
  • In their opinion, the greatest contributions and shortcomings of ICL.Applicants are stongly encouraged to e-mail their applications which must include a completed form, detailed CV and a cover letter no later than Friday August 28th to:
