- MA Development Studies
The MA in Development Studies is designed to provide you with a rigorous and critical introduction to development and how to manage complex change realities in societies in the developing world. The MA provides an inter-disciplinary training where students are provided with intellectual discussions in politics, economics, cultural, institutional, health, environment and natural resources, and sociological realities that impact development foundations in the developing world. The inter-disciplinary approach is based on contemporary belief that issues of poverty, inequality, human security and human rights, and underdevelopment could be better understood from an inter-disciplinary perspective.
The program will introduce you to development studies as an inter-disciplinary subject. It covers the comprehensive debates on development, research methods, and fundamental areas of development. The main goal of this program is to bridge the gap between research and sustainable development in the global south.
As part of the requirement for graduation, students would submit a thesis being the result of work done on an identifiable local development organization such as youth groups, women groups, conflict management organizations, etc.
The program is an excellent preparation for a career in Teaching, development research and further studies, and a development analyst by establishing or working for a development agency.
MPhil Programmes
- MPhil International Development Studies
The MPhil in Development Studies is designed to provide students with an experience of conducting rigorous research in the area of development. The MPhil provides an inter-disciplinary training that keeps focus on complex and continuous changes in development realities in the global south. It covers the comprehensive debates in development and critical development literature. The main goal of this program is to bridge the gap between research and sustainable development in the global south.
Students will take ten (10) courses; this is made up of five core courses in development, two elective courses in development, a research methods, a research design course, and a language course. At the beginning of the second year, students would be assigned to research supervisors who will guide them through the research project of their choice.
As part of the requirement for graduation, students would submit a publishable thesis being the result of work done on an identifiable local development organization such as youth groups, women groups, conflict management organizations, etc.
The program is an excellent preparation for a career in Teaching, development research and further studies.
